Locally Grown

Upon reasonable discussion and analysis. I've grown uncertain as to the degree of which I should value this locally grown market. I would never forfeit the bigger conventional market place no matter how much is available nearby.

The local ideology seems like a Socialist ideal. "We can provide for ourselves!" Not everything can be grown and produced in a single city or even state. But perhaps the essentials can and should be regulated in order to aid the local economy?

I realize that the centralized food industry is a danger and that local markets give us other options, in the event that the central option fails; However, I don't think local markets could ever replace the centralized market. What they have to do is grow and become integrated. That's rather what's been happening with whole foods and sweet bay stores.

LEt's hope the central market can adapt readily to this influx. Or rather let's hope the new organic and local markets can last long enough to make a real impact.

Local Farms

Found a farm here in Sarasota Called Jessica's Farm. Very nice place. HAd a little cash and bough some carrots! :D

The farm is small when compared to conventional standards but they are looking for land to expand upon here in Sarasota.

I stumbled upon them by accident and had to stop by to investigate, but I didn't have my camera.

Good thing I found some pictures on their website!
